▸ EDITORIAL CRITERIA
How this site decides.
What gets listed, how a listing is written, how comparisons are made, and how money and our own products are kept away from all three.
WHAT GETS LISTED
A tool is listed when a developer building an AI product could reasonably choose it today. In practice that means:
- It belongs to a category the catalog covers.
- Anyone can sign up for it or install it now. No waitlists.
- It has public documentation.
- Its pricing is public, or it is open source and can be run without talking to sales.
- It is maintained: there has been a release or a documented change in the last year.
A tool that stops meeting these is removed.
WHAT DOES NOT GET A TOOL LISTED
- Payment. There is no fee to be listed and no way to buy a listing.
- A request from the vendor. Vendors can suggest a tool; the criteria above decide.
- Popularity. A small tool that meets the criteria is listed next to a large one.
HOW A LISTING IS WRITTEN
Each description is written for this site from the vendor's own documentation and pricing page, and says what the tool does in plain terms. Marketing claims are left out unless we have checked them.
Every listing carries the same seven facts: owner, license, self-hosting, hosted regions, free tier, pricing model and lowest paid plan. Each one links to the vendor page it was read from and shows the date it was checked. A tool is not listed until all seven have been checked. Its plans are shown as the vendor's pricing page states them, with the date they were read.
Drafts are sometimes written with the help of an AI model. A person checks every statement against the vendor's site before it is published, and that person is responsible for it.
ORDER AND RANKING
Tools are listed alphabetically within a category. There are no scores, no "best of" badges and no ranking. Where one tool suits a situation better than another, a comparison says so and shows why.
THE PRICING WATCH
Once a day the site fetches the public pricing page of each listed tool and compares its text with the last copy. When the text differs, a person reads both versions. If prices or plan limits changed, the change is published with its date and a short description.
Two limits are worth knowing. A change in wording that does not change a price is not published. And a pricing page that only shows its numbers after running scripts cannot be read this way. Those tools have no automatic watch, and the date on the listing is when their pricing was last checked.
COMPARISONS
A comparison rests on something that was done and can be described: what was sent to each tool, in what setup, and what was measured. The method is part of the article. A comparison that could not be tested says it is based on documentation only.
OUR OWN PRODUCTS
The person who edits this site also builds software, including tools in categories the catalog covers. Readers are right to treat that as a conflict of interest, so these rules apply:
- Any listed tool built by the editor carries the label Built by this site's editor on its listing.
- It must meet the same criteria as every other tool, and is listed in the same alphabetical order.
- A comparison that includes one publishes the same measurements for every tool and gives no verdict or recommendation.
SPONSORSHIP AND AFFILIATE LINKS
There are no sponsored placements on the site today and no affiliate links. Links to a tool go to the tool's own site with no tracking code that pays us.
If sponsorship is introduced, a sponsored placement will carry the label Sponsored, will sit apart from the catalog order, and will not change a listing, a comparison or the pricing watch. This page will be updated before the first one appears.
CORRECTIONS
If a listing is wrong or out of date, write to [email protected]. Vendors are welcome to. Errors of fact are fixed and the listing's date is updated. A vendor's disagreement with a comparison gets an answer.
